Review - EA’s Need For Speed: Carbon - for the Mac. I race down a canyon with my speed being at least 70 mph, trying to stay on the road. My opponent crashes into me purposely, making me swerve. I hit him accidentally, driving off the road and into the canyon. My heart pounding, I step away from my keyboard, and get myself a Coke. Need for Speed Carbon (Mac)- AWESOME. This game has pretty good graphics for a somewhat old mac game! The audio is high quality and the game has a good plot and fun racing mechanics. Best of all, the car customization is one of the best I've ever seen. A MUST BUY FOR RACING GAME FANS!!! Or at least that was until WWDC 07. Now Carbon for Mac users means speed. More specifically, it means EA Games’ Need for Speed: Carbon for Intel-based Macintosh computers.
During this year’s WWDC Keynote, it was announced that EA Games was bringing its big guns to the Mac platform. Along with Need for Speed Carbon, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Battlefield 2142 and Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars would be the first of the blockbuster games being released for OS X this summer, according to Frank Gibeau, EA’s vice president of publishing.
“These four games are just the beginning,” Gibeau said. “We’re excited to deliver key EA Franchises such as Harry Potter, Madden Football and Need for Speed to Mac Gamers.”
Madden NFL 08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 are slated to be released with their worldwide premiers later this year.
In Need for Speed Carbon, it is fast cars in high-speed street racing battle for bragging rights and control of the city’s streets. The latest in one of the most popular street racing games, Need For Speed Carbon’s story line has the police cracking down hard on street racers and forcing them to the outskirts of the city, including the perilous Carbon Canyon.
In the Canyon, every turn becomes a life and death struggle with the chance to win everything or lose your life as you compete in Canyon Challenges against rival bosses. There is also a new Drift racing mode that will test your nerves and skills on winding roads and steep drop-offs.
However, for the first time in the Need For Speed series, you are not alone. You build a crew around you to help you race and take over rival neighborhoods street by street. Choose your crew carefully and use their skills for racing and customizing your ride. And while your Need For Speed wingman won’t help you get dates, he will help you win races with special skills designed to take out race rivals.
If you are a fan of the classics or real cars, Need for Speed Carbon does not disappoint. There are over 50 licensed cars in the game, including the new Ford Shelby GT500 and the Mazda Mezea speed 3. And just like the real world, you can tune, paint and customize them to your hearts content.
The ability to customize your car has been a staple of the Need For Speed series, but Carbon turbo boosts customization to the next level with Autosculpt. Autosculpt is a revolutionary new tool that will let you “morph” your car in nearly every way imaginable.

This game is not available in the Porting Kit yet. Porting Kit is the new application which “ports” the game to your Mac. The video and download links in the slider are outdated and won’t work on OS X 10.11+. Fortunately there is way to fix/update it, install the game with the Porting Kit using this video instruction. Or when you use the Crossover application the Crosstie below (when available).
